One of the practices employed by almost every farm I have visited is the use of cover crops to regenerate the nutrients in the soil and prevent erosion. When I first visited Red Dog Farm, there was a field of buckwheat that was just beginning to bloom, you can see small white flowers throughout the field.

Visiting the farm again two weeks later yielded this view of the same field:

Here the buckwheat is in full bloom and almost ready for Bruce to till it and plant a second crop of buckwheat.

Next growing season Bruce will use this field to grow vegetables while he plants his other field with cover crops.
And I have one more photograph from Red Dog Farm that did not make it in a previous post. It is a fruit tree protected from deer and other animals by the surrounding fence.
