Mushrooms require a specific environment to grow in that is very different from plants–and different varieties of mushrooms require different environments. That is, the oyster mushrooms require specific temperatures and humidity levels that differ from other fungi and even among species of oyster mushrooms.
growing
The fruit of the oyster mushroom grows and is harvested in about 24 hours time. The mushrooms are grown in bags that have been sterilized, only to allow the particular oyster mushroom to grow.
bags
Dave and Dee ensure that the mushrooms and growing medium are not exposed to extra chemicals or fertilizers and also compost the bags–thereby reducing their waste and negative impact on the environment. In addition, they are looking into installing a geo-thermal heating and cooling system that would dramatically decrease there energy consumption from utilities that primarily use coal and nuclear power.
