sheep being herded

And now a long overdue post from Simply Abundant Farms, located in Henrico, Virginia:

Simply Abundant is operated by Emily, who raises lamb, chicken, and turkey for sale at farmers markets (South of the James and Bryan Park markets in Richmond) and through http://www.simply-abundant.com/. The lambs and sheep also provide wool and the chickens provide eggs (also for sale).

Emily raises four varieties of sheep. She raises Border Leicesters to show and sell their fleece. The Cheviot ewes, Scottish Blackface ewes and Bluefaced Leicester rams she uses to raise lambs for slaughter. Emily practices a three-tiered breeding program in which she breeds either ewe with a ram to produce mules, which are then bred with halfbred ewes to produce the final lambs.

Chicks

Above is a collection of chicks that are too young to leave the protection of the barn. Soon, though, they will have their feathers and be large enough to live outside with the other chickens, who are very curious. Below is an image of some curious chickens exploring new territory.

Emily was in the process of moving the chicken pen. Most of the chickens went exploring when the enclosure was open.

And lastly, a cute lamb photograph.
